While one can certainly see how a relationship that is physically, emotionally, and spiritually dangerous ought to be ended, it seems to grate against Christian hope to abandon relationships at the onset of difficulty. Yes, many dangers, toils, and snares are likely to come along and trip up even healthy relationships. In a world where relationship is at the core of the created order, and sin is tearing at the very fabric of creation, we need to prayerfully consider what to do next when a relationship suffers a set back. The Wisdom Literature of the Hebrew Bible is a gift to us. These inspired authors look at the world around them, and at their own hearts, and set about giving us insight on how to live and what the good life looks like.

As is true with much of the rest of the Bible, a choice is put before us, a path for us to choose.

On the one hand, we can live according the wise construction of the universe as accomplished by an all-wise God. On the other hand we can do what is right only in our own eyes, and be vulnerable to the damaging impulses of our own foolishness.

The choice seems clear; lean in to the miraculous insight given to us in places like Proverbs, absorb its wisdom about who we are, how the world works, and what way of living leads to life. In choosing this, we choose to follow Jesus as He wisely lives in a way reflective of the wisdom literature of the only Bible available to Him during His earthly ministry. We immerse ourselves in the same scriptures He did.

On today's [re]church podcast pastor mike covers his EIGHTH of nine indicators (Subordinated Relationships), as part of the ongoing series suggesting that a gospel tune-up (if not a complete overhaul) may be in order in our "Christian" life. How is it that our Christian lives can so quickly lose their gospel foundation? It just does. We need to be looking out for each other and speaking the truth. Not to condemn, but to cooperate in the wonderful lifework of Christ-rooted transformation into peaceful, peace-making, pieces of heaven in a world that needs it so desperately.
